George and Ruth Culver founded their first A&W on Phillips Boulevard in 1961. They bought Devil’s Lake’s Farm Kitchen in 1968.

Craig Culver started with McDonald’s after college in 1973. Craig, George, Ruth, and Lea sold their restaurants and quit their jobs to start Culvers. Craig ran the business until 2015

Culver’s Blue Spoon Cafe opened in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, in 2000 as a soup-sandwich-salad restaurant.
